A PLACE FOR NATURE AND WELLBEING

Sowerby Bridge’s
community woodland

WELCOME

Discover ancient woodland, atmospheric quarries and a riverside walk

Dixon Scar Woods (or ‘Dixie Woods’) is a much loved area of community green space just a short walk from the centre of Sowerby Bridge.

The Friends of Dixon Scar Woods are a group of local residents who are seeking to improve the woods. We want the woods and green spaces to be more accessible, better managed for the benefit of nature, have more facilities and have their historic features preserved and recognised.

How to find
Dixon Scar Woods

There are a number of ways to reach the woods.

You can follow the canal from Tuel Lock next to Tuel Lane (behind the market) for ten minutes until you nearly reach the tunnel. Walk onto Hollins Mill Lane and turn left going down the hill, then when you reach the road closure point turn right and follow the path around the stoneyard and go across the bridge over the river.

Alternatively, walk down Cemetary Lane or Lower Bentley Royd off Sowerby New Road.
